That Word, That Word!

a word sits on a page, it exists valueless
associations break its silence
a word picks up debris, and alternate meanings
evolution can't get stuffed back
I smeared that word on things, now Nothing has meaning
it creeps me out in dreams
I turn to the sky, that word looks down on me
I wish it was a lie, but it's been on my mind
what's said is said and we've learned
to not live in old times
I go to the books to fortify my mind
that word salutes on every page
that word still holds a vote, it lurks in many minds
associations wane but still won't die away
we chip and chip at the bricks
Phantom Tollbooth cornerstone
our hard work turns to loose sand
we wash it out of our heads
progress works slow

Deathbed

36 years then I figured love out when you walked away from me
you said my doors aren't open
now aware of my dysfunctions, you helped me to finally see
how to give and get the most I can by being strong and weak
you gave me Ernest Becker, and he gifted me my life
he explained away my sickness
I know you never loved me, you used me for your little tests
in a heretofore counterintuitive way I helped you summit
out of the blue: cat flashbacks
it makes me feel ill at night to know I never said I love you
I know you'll never love me but it feels warm inside my guts
loving you feels like sunrise
and I'll never get rid of you
you'll be next to me when I die
I'll never be rid of you
I know what love's about now, it makes me feel good to lie
alone in warm acceptance and to give it all to you
I give it all to you
