Paddle Out
03:03
|
|||
constructing a worldview anchored in sand
feelings can't be clutched in hand
fools' errands, when allowed, can rule unvigilant men
Truth is objective, empirically-known, no data means ethereal
an abundance of time unused might still not heal
and when the waters rise the lie is exposed
so back to the map navigation unknown
a sailor with unruddered boat
trial and error wastes time when solution is known
listen to mentors follow wise men, now this journey's path is known
waves will come but won't drown your airflow
with throats exposed we'll face violent unknown
paddle out
with eye on the horizon don't bail out
elemental forces pull you down toward Earth
too fast for thought is Nature's speed
you'll lean in hard trying to hold your course
sometimes when fought gravity concedes
paddle now
don't bail out
back to land and family
tilt eyes high
toward black sky
never kiss the ground
ascend

||||
2. |
||||
you're right, we never got a jumpstart
we pointed our eyes at the wrong screen
we turned our headphones all the way up to 10
and so we couldn't hear our parents scream
we got a large inheritance, we blew it
no investments, no rainy-day fund
no celebration of work-ethic-cultivation
only candy, jerking off, and empty fun
show us shiny things, we give our soul for these
sitting alone quietly allows a stifled intellect to breathe
we're done, been sleeping - atrophied
fighting momentum tough to build velocity
paying thoughtless homage to last year's frauds
kneeling in worship to narcissistic gods
B-A-D-D-E
then S then I then C
everything else gets written the same
making bad decisions is a rule of our game
adulthood's about learning from our mistakes
now we know what didn't work so we rework a messy slate
doors unlock until the last grain drops
today we can make use or can make waste
what people will we be if we do everything correctly
maybe with a lifetime (starting now) of hard work on the last day we can finally feel happy

Don't Trust the Machine
04:49
|
|||
machine malfunctions it does just what it's told
slave strives to please master, master wonders why she revolts
the mouse pipes up, the trap soon gets picked clean
picked a poor professor the pupil earned what she received
sit up on stage now idly running through your act
dumb dummy starts pulling strings grammar school starts coming back
Brother Whip is to blame when horses drive awry
self-immolating sights bring fires to life
we all turned our keys then screamed when door swung ajar
built a concrete wall to hold our enemies, erected one foot tall
the slave misbehaves for reasons always master's fault
eager students learned what the teacher mistaught
machine malfunctions, it follows commands
Man's command comes from Nature, he can't not be a man
Man scratches his head, his problem's infinite in time
he furrows brow and bounces ball off wall
a legacy needs built and puzzles need to be solved
instruction manual and the clues get tossed
the garbage burns now, we breathe our own atmosphere
we built our own house now we laze around and kick it here
we raze our towns and live in fear

Saturn Sally
02:21
|
|||
hot humid Texan day the slaughterhouse is starting to kick
sun blazing high at noon soon to set on tragic kids
isolation leads to funhouse taking hold where home once stood
the daughter raised in Western home thinks Fred and Rosey are good
we’re making headcheese
Sally’s gonna bear us kids
we pack sausages between teenage thighs and tits
whistling past graveyards deep in rural Texas land
forgotten towns make linking dots tough on lawmen
maybe-apocryphal stories of ghoulish goings on
around here we mind our business we keep our noses where they belong
we’re making babies
with young girls stolen from beds
we slaughter twelve steers per minute then render down their heads
we live as we see fit fear depends on where you sit
you’d like this meal if you did not know what’s in it
out here we mind our business we tread on no man’s land
we learned our living from Grandpa he lived with hammer in his hand
evolutionary culture continues and gets passed on
family meals will tie us strong and lead to tight bonds
new generation learns from old and comes along
the world turns out there without us but we keep keepin’ on and on and on......
we’re feeding our needs
fed by travelers lost
we deviate and perpetuate
men wander up and get chopped
female meat misleads - she looks just like a steak
Sally, kept not cooked, is realizing her dark fate

Thank You, Mr. Becker
03:05
|
|||
our human truth: the mind is infinite but the body can’t keep up
did we do too much or not enough?
no human can live long enough to say
if this is evolution or decay (or something else)
we have words to spout but sometimes fear and bile
threaten to well up and fill the mouth
we have races to run and goals to achieve
but spasms seize the gut and bring us to our knees
omnipotent command comes from the brain
but the hands are bound in chains
the mind enslaved to constant wondering why
this world feels so constrained
fear that we’ll endure a sickness or lonely shuttered shame
that my legacy won’t reach a published page
faith that there’s a reason for the pain but the pursuit of proof drives man insane
and didn’t yield one thing today
life doesn’t speak specifics it suggests and implies
it looks away from black and white
man - a tortured mutant, confused and mostly off
where will he find the strength to just give up?
Becker taught us how to go: make peace with this sick horrorshow
the bodies fail the moment minds solve life
(Mr. Murphy told us so)
if you don’t use your stupid brain you’re just in someone else’s way
a million volumes bound and nothing explained
so just make up why it’s this way
