hey you, you’ve been a’gathering facts
you’re not sure where your skeleton ends
pointed your eyes at the world
just where does the zeitgeist begin?
hey you, you’ve got a noose in your hand
committed to a tightened end
what first draft goes unrevised?
deadly tight and so it can’t unwind
ambiguity
you did a J but not a P
you saw the words on the page
dead ink soaked into processed pulp
words unread, they only got seen
you did an S and left untouched the N
data are dirt, alone they tell no tale
microscopic plot points sing
chief witness got told what to see
his words withheld from the jury
mirror reflects ash, as does a water tub
sight is one, alone it’s only some
meat and mind weren’t made to fight for space
a robust stance walks toward long debate

been finding all the reasons
to feel good about
the world sucking around me:
it always blows right back
waking up at midnight
no longer petrified
that I brought a demon back with me
doing a disservice
to all the truth I’ve found
doing shallow small things
with all the big wisdom
but all the puzzles solved now
it’s part of Nature’s game
for a great idea to stay small
every angry angle
will be available
it’s never tough to find a place where a person stinks
optimism’s hopeless
when you demand to
miss the makeup
and dismiss laughter
there’s no such thing as hopeless
when we enjoy the gifts of
men like Ernest Becker
and Marcus and Chuck B.
they give the mind a springboard
off which to do McTwists
every brick lain lies betwixt two

coma
dream world
feels so free and honest
chess pieces: bookended
the texture of a dog’s skin governed
football men penalized
nothing’s infinitely open
run free with no leash
ingest everything
flattened on a wall
kissed by Kitana
brains act toward their demands
the brain’s body is the hand’s glove
the book’s vessel is binding
removed from the words within
beauty
ugly
removed from motives
facade obvious
still judgments they come
we act as though we
have no history
don’t get stuck on faces
don’t get stuck on body lines
don’t get fooled by masses
most things are just distractions
